Ethnography museum of Skriaudziai - Calendars exposition

The museum collection is made of Suvalkija region ethnography things, bedding, textiles, smithery, kitchen, farm material of 18-20 centuries, also 8000 calendars of different size and purpose from 58 world countries.
Ethnography exposition

The exposition is located in four buildings that belong to one ensemble. It is paled with wooden fence.
Girlish barn
It is the building of 19 century. There you can find 17-18 century dower vat, dower-chests and chest brought from America (1910). The bed in Girlish barn is made up with homemade bedding.

Smithy
It is the building of 20 century where the old agriculture implements, smithery, drilling and woodturning tools are displayed.
Barn

It is built in 1921 m. On the outside of the building here are cemetery crosses and fences. Inside the building various pieces of work, old furniture, kitchen cupboard made in 1799, vat for gosling clutch made in 1840, flax treatment, harvest cleaning tools are exposed. In the barn there is crystal set installed. The President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and Misses Alma Adamkiene visited the museum on May 31, 2002 and during the visit they listened to this crystal set.
Smoke House
It is the dwelling house of 18 century. There are ethnography utensils, things, spinning and weaving tools exposed.
Calendars Exposition
The first calendars exposition was presented on June 15, 1997 in the Skriaudziai Culture House loft (30 m2). Current collection is introduced in 6 rooms. 2000 calendars are shown. The oldest museum pieces there are tree calendars of 19 century (1848, 1849 and 1864).
There are also unitary edition calendars made only for collection supplement. The most interesting and unique calendars are made by Konstantinas Mesaksudi (1908) He is the Greek by birth but lives in Kaunas. One his calendar is possible to use for 400 years (from 18 to 21 century). A lot of interesting calendars are made by schoolchildren.
For the entry to the museum you have to pay “one calendar fee” so usually the museum visitors add to the collection. Calendars are also collected in institutions, companies, shops, publishing houses, bookstores, shows.
Calendars collection shows are organized in various towns: Vilnius Teachers’ House (2001), Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania (Seimas) (2003), The Museum of Birstonas (2003), Marijampole Public Library (2004) and Kaunas District Public Library (2005).
